Hong Kong, December 28, 2005 - An expedition team formed by Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong members including Hong Kong renowned mountaineer Mr Chung Kin Man, and Mr Wang Shi, President of China Vanke Co., Ltd. and Mr Cao Jun from China have successfully reached the South Pole and completed the "7+2" challenge today.
The expedition team left Hong Kong on December 8, heading first to Punta Arenas at the tip of South America, and began their 120km overland trek to the pole. This remarkable "7+2" mission represents the climbing of the highest peaks on seven continents and the North and South Poles were fulfilled under stormy and rough conditions, but the expedition pairs ¡V Mr Chung and Mr Wang fearlessly and successfully reached South Pole at 0105 hrs today. Mr Chung is the first Hong Kong Chinese to conquer the "7+2" mission. The completion of this mission listed both Mr Chung Kin Man and Mr Wang Shi on the "7+2" scoreboard. And HKSAR also marks a significant record in history. The expedition was supported by China Resources Group, China Mobile and SSI Holdings (Far East) Ltd., which aims to raise funds in support of studies and protection of the rare and endangered White-headed Leaf Monkeys in Chongzuo County of Guangxi Zhuang Municipality.
