Dr Lam Sai Wing, Chairman, Hang Fung Gold Technology Group, said at the ceremony: "The '3D-GOLD' Tourism Exhibition Hall was a Hang Fung innovation to realize our compelling vision in the local tourism industry. It leverages our design and manufacturing competencies, as well as our marketing insights, to re-invent the industry by creating a new tourism-focused retailing business line. We take pride to report that the Hall has been a huge success and has received over 2 million visitors since its opening in January 2001." Dr Lam continued: "In view of the continued surge in demand, especially during the Labor Day holidays in May when we recorded over 8,000 visitors daily, we have been planning to expand the Hall to cope with increasing patronage. The timely opening of the New Wing, thanks to the hard work of our dedicated staff, will bring an additional space of 30,000 sq ft to help us capture the traffic boom during the National Day golden week. A new World's Timepieces Chamber is also established inside the New Wing. Taking inspiration from our record-breaking pure gold washroom, we have created new attractions for the New Wing - the 'Gold Mine' and 'Diamond Mine' - which we believe will again become popular tourist spectacles in Hong Kong. "Employing the latest technologies, the 'Gold Mine' and 'Diamond Mine' were created to reproduce the mysterious and natural beauty of gold and diamond before excavation. The concept was inspired after the pure gold washroom, which was part of my teenage dreams to uncover the secrets of gold, a treasure cherished even by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. I am hoping to share my in-depth knowledge, gained after years of participation in the industry, with all visitors of the Hall. The new attractions were also developed in line with the growing popularity of diamond among Mainland Chinese visitors. We expect these two new spots to help enhance consumers' overall knowledge and appreciation of precious metals, and to add glamour to Hong Kong's tourism industry." "As expected traffic flow during the National Day golden week doubled to about 4,000-5,000 visitors per day. We anticipate three-fold increase in revenues during the holidays," added Ms Kathy Ng, President, Hang Fung Gold Technology Group. Ms Ng pointed out further that due to the relaxation of travel visa procedures, Mainland tourist arrivals in Hong Kong in the first three days of the National Day holidays have already exceeded 7,000. It is expected that the golden week will result in a total income of HK$400 million for the local tourism industry, in which consumption for gold and diamond jewellery will contribute a significant share. She believed that the "3D-GOLD" Tourism Exhibition Hall had successfully combined the fun of sight-seeing with shopping to create a unique attraction for Hong Kong. "Our Group is also actively exploring the feasibility of establishing '3D-GOLD' Tourism Exhibition Halls under different themes in other cities in China, as our locomotives to expand in and tap the huge potential of the Mainland market," concluded Ms Ng.
