Hong Kong, October 18, 2005 - Kerry Properties Limited (HKEx: 683) today officially names "MegaBox", its "TCM" Vertical Mega-Mall under development at Kowloon Bay's Enterprise Square 5.
Pioneering the development of "TCM" Vertical Mega-Malls in the city, MegaBox will be the largest shopping mall in East Kowloon. Designed with iconic architectural features around an unprecedentedly huge space, MegaBox is a giant magic box with a mega vertical extension across a generous space of over 1 million square feet, with three distinctive lifestyle-theme zones catering to shoppers' personalised tastes and aspirations. MegaBox is built around Totally Connected Modules (TCM). This proprietary "TCM" concept is realised in three ways: First, in the free-flow of visitor traffic facilitated by the express escalators and elevators connecting the mall's three major zones; second, in the convenient vehicular driveway reaching all floors enabling drivers to quickly reach the topmost zone in only three loops; and third, the mall's ultimate connectivity with the outside environment through its Ball and Beehive Atriums, both incorporating six-storey glass windows which allow natural light to flood into the building and gives the shoppers scenic vistas of Kowloon and Hong Kong. Mr Tom Tong, Executive Director, MegaBox Development Co Limited, remarked: "The enormous space enclosed by MegaBox puts us in the same league as the gigantic horizontal malls of North America. Commanding both vertical and versatile mega-space, the mall will accommodate the operations of Big Box tenants as well as the staging of all-day action including large-scale exhibitions, performances and games. It is destined to be a dynamic and lively family destination." Kowloon Bay has become a red-hot neighbourhood following a number of land auctions at high prices during the year. A recent research report has pointed to the potential of Kowloon Bay as a new site for "Big Box Retailing", a breakthrough development in Hong Kong's homogenized and highly concentrated shopping scene. "Having developed a number of premium locations in Kowloon Bay over recent years, our Group has become a major contributor to the area's dramatic transformation from conventional industrial district into a pre-eminent location for Grade-A offices. The completion of MegaBox, coupled with Government's plans for the redevelopment of the Kai Tak Airport site and other developments underway at Kowloon Bay, will help brand this area as an important new metropolitan district where the East Kowloon action is." Enterprise Square 5 will deliver a total gross floor area of 1.6 million square feet, with MegaBox ranging over 19 storeys across 1.1 million square feet of retail space.
