To find the 300 best SMEs, FORBES GLOBAL polled money managers, securities analysts and entrepreneurs around the world for their choices. All selected companies are publicly quoted and had under US$500 million in revenue in the latest fiscal year. About two-thirds of these companies have at least 15% sales and earnings growth over the past three years, return on equity of no less than 12% and 20% earnings growth expected in the coming year. FORBES GLOBAL also included 100 companies recommended by fund managers and analysts.

The 20 SMEs chosen by FORBES GLOBAL last year, including Johnson Electric (HKSE: 179) of Hong Kong, scored an average stock price increase of 12.7% in the past year.
